Leon Michel wurde 1999 bei Hamburg geboren. Er studierte Bildende Kunst an der Hochschule für Bildende Künste Dresden in der Fachklasse für Bewegtbild bei Prof. Nicole Vögele.
Seine künstlerischen Arbeiten bewegen sich zwischen Independentfilm und Videokunst.
2026 stellte er seinen ersten Langfilm Harvest Sky fertig; die Veröffentlichung steht noch aus.
Parallel zur künstlerischen Praxis ist Leon Michel seit 2018 freiberuflich als Kameramann und Fotograf tätig. Er arbeitete u. a. für Schauspiel Köln, FFT Düsseldorf und verschiedene Künstlerinnen und Künstler aus dem deutschsprachigen Performance- und Theaterbetrieb.
Außerdem leitet er Workshops zu Film und Fotografie mit Jugendlichen. Er ist seit 2024 regelmäßig Teil der Filmfabrik Hamburg (JAF e. V.) und realisierte 2025–2026 ein ausstellungsbegleitendes Workshopprojekt für das Deutsche Hygiene-Museum Dresden im Rahmen der Ausstellung Freiheit. Eine unvollendete Geschichte.
Leon Michel was born in 1999 near Hamburg. He studied Fine Arts at the Hochschule für Bildende Künste Dresden (HfBK) in the Moving Image class of Prof. Nicole Vögele.
His artistic work moves between independent film and video art.
In 2026 he completed his first feature film Harvest Sky; its release is forthcoming.
Alongside his artistic practice, Leon Michel has worked freelance as a cinematographer and photographer since 2018, including for Schauspiel Köln, FFT Düsseldorf, and various artists from the German-speaking performance and theatre scene.
He also leads film and photography workshops with young people. He has been a regular collaborator at Filmfabrik Hamburg (JAF e. V.) since 2024 and realised an exhibition-accompanying workshop project for the Deutsches Hygiene-Museum Dresden in 2025–2026 as part of the exhibition Freiheit. Eine unvollendete Geschichte.
